Dogs Need Love And Attention
Dogs are special animals. I have a six year old German Shepard, named Sparky. He is extremely intelligent and smart. Late last year, I experienced a strange situation with Sparky. The problem was he couldn't close his mouth and he was drooling heavily. So, I rushed him to the vet. The vet administered atll types of tests and he even stayed overnight for observation. When the vet called me, he said he couldn't figure out what was wrong with Sparky. And when I went to pick Sparky up the vet told me that he has heard of this type of issue but that he has never seen it any of his patients, then he referred Sparky to a nearby vet specialist.
So I made the appointment and took Sparky to see the vet specialist. After being tested, observed and given water to drink so we knew that his tongue was working properly, the vet specialist said Sparky had Trigeminal Neuritis, also known as mandibular paralysis. The cause of the disorder is unknown and the paralysis of the jaw muscles causes an inability to close the mouth. Then the vet specialist said I would have to feed Sparky by hand until he can eat on his own again. I then asked how do I do that? Sparky has dangerous teeth. Then the vet specialist showed me how to put on latex gloves to feed Sparky. She also gave him some food because she said he looked hungry and he ate it all up. Then she showed me the special food that I would have to buy for him to eat until he recovered. Then I asked how long will it tbe until Sparky returns to normal? She said it shouldn't take too long. Then before we left her office she gave me her contact information and said if he takes a turn for the worse or if I have any questions to call the office.
I used the latex gloves that the vet specialist recommended and the special food and I fed Sparky by and for almost two weeks until he completely recovered.
When Sparky couldn't close his mouth and eat normally I felt so sorry for him because there was nothing I could do but follow the vet specialist recommendation. I was so happy when Sparky returned to normal and could eat by himself again.
There are times when your dog need than food or water. Sometimes they need that extra attention that they expect and rely on from their owners. Sparky is a terrific dog and more than that he is my buddy. There is nothing that I wouldn't do for him especially when it comes to his health. Be more than willing to assist your pet in their time of need.
